One of the most developed handicrafts is carpet & rugs weaving.
Local women for ages have ability to produce hand-made carpets &
rugs.
Only two oblasts in Kazakhstan have old traditions in carpet
weaving. They are the Kyzylorda & Shymkent oblasts.
Unfortunately in
the course of time carpet weaving is becoming to be lost as young women
prefer to buy factory made carpets and old aged women who known
traditional carpet weaving became less number.
For finding really good
hand-made carpet its needed to make serious search in the rayon's of
the oblast. Since Kazakhstan became the independent state carpet weaving
traditions as kazakh national handicrafts were considered to be
restored. Two carpet weaving workshops had been recently opened in
Kyzylorda city where the trained local
women are weaving kazakh carpets
& rugs. This work is being leaded by Tahsin Parlak from Ataturk
University (Turkey, Erzurum city) who is the person amazingly dedicating
to carpets.
